Amazon Rainforest

Spent the last 4 days in the Amazon Rainforest, at Reserva Amazonica (www.inkaterra.com), on the banks of the Madre de Dios River. We couldn't believe how much wildlife we saw during our stay there. A toucan greeted us at the lodge, and we saw 4 species of Monkey, 3 species of Caiman (a type of Crocodile), numerous birds and even the largest rodent in the world (Capybara, a huge rat, the size of a pig!). Gareth liked the monkey posing for a photo by showing its teeth (monkey sign of aggression, warning of an imminent attack). Hannah was horrified at the Caimans, which were brought on board the boat for everyone (except her!) to touch. We explored the jungle with our own guide on foot, boat, and even in a treetop walkway 35m up, a magnificent sunrise greeting us! Even the food was jungle themed, all local veg/fruit cooked in bamboo tubes and banana leaves. On Monday we depart on the 4 day trek along Inca paths, with Machu Picchu our destination for sunrise on Thursday morning!

Sounds like you are having a great time. Gaz seems to have found his natural level - talking to monkeys!
Enjoy the Inca trail - Molly says it is amazing.
