Glaciar National Park (Argentine Patagonia)

From Buenos Aires we flew on to El Calafate, giving us access to the Glaciar National Park in the southern tip of Argentina. Here we visited the Perito Moreno Glaciar, which is 2km wide and 20 storeys high. The glaciar makes spectacular noises as chunks of ice crack off and watched as they plummeted into the lake, sending tidal waves over to the shore. It moves 2m a day, and loses 2m of ice a day from the front, putting on a great show for the tourists. El Chalten, at the foot of Mt Fitzroy (3 times higher than Ben Nevis), was our next stop where we had three days trekking. Witnessed the Sunrise of Fire, as the sun paints the towering peaks red and pink for several seconds on clear mornings. Crossed the border into Chile yesterday, and set off for the 5 day "W" circuit of Torres Del Paine tomorrow. We'll be camping and hiking our way around more dramatic scenery! Patagonia is one of the most beautiful places both of us have visited, and we´re so pleased to have included it in our trip.
