Lake Titicaca
An amazing 10 hour train journey from Cusco, at an average altitude of 4000m and we arrived into Puno. Here we arranged a trip to the floating Uros Islands made from reeds and then on to Amantani Island where we stayed the evening with a Peruvian farmer and his family. Juan and Maria were fantastic hosts and even leant us some traditional clothing for a fiesta in the village hall. This basicically involved holding hands with everyone in a big circle and running around to the sound of pan pipes...certainly an experience neither of us will forget! Our accommodation was in a mud brick building with corregated iron roof, which Hannah thought was going to collapse during a very noisy hale storm in the middle of the night! Made a visit to Taquile Island and saw the amazing textiles produced here before crossing the border into Bolivia. We were lucky enough to have the time for two days on the most beautiful Island of all and mythical birth place of the first Inca, the Isla del Sol. We are now in the highest capital city in the world, La Paz, which has a stunning setting totally surrounded by snow capped mountains.
