Wellington

Wellington has been our home for the past week whilst our Chinese Visas have been processed.  We stayed in a fantastic hostel in a beautiful coastal village (Plimmerton) 20 minutes north of the city, and took the opportunity to explore both the city and its surrounding areas.

Our coastal explorations took us south-east to Cape Palliser, the most southern point of the North Island.  The dramatic clouds enhanced the rugged views of this landscape, and we saw seals playing in the sea nearby.

We also spent a few days exploring the city, sampling the cafes, exhibitions and museums Wellington has to offer:

Wellington harbour is surrounded by hills, so we took advantage of the vantage points, going up by Cable car to the Botanical Gardens, and visiting Mt Victoria (home to some Lord of the Rings scenes).

With visas in hand, we board our ferry this afternoon for the South Island.

Bon Voyage!

So glad you have had some great weather during your visit to the North Island. Hope it was as good for the ferry trip.
Don't be too disappointed when the ABs give the Lions a hiding tonight, will you?
Enjoy the beautiful but cold South Island!
Much love
